As part of its mission to prepare thought leaders and community influencers who embody the principles of moderate Islam, the Scientific Endowment at King Abdulaziz University has announced the launch of the “Moderation and Balance Fellowship.”
The initiative is one of the university’s professional and academic fellowship programs aimed at fostering values of tolerance, balanced thinking, and the development of capable leaders in the fields of preaching, communication, and community engagement — through a modern, evidence-based educational approach.

This fellowship comes as part of a broader portfolio of distinguished programs offered by the Endowment to empower national leaders in intellectual, religious, and social fields. These specialized fellowships combine academic study with hands-on training, contributing to the development of scholarly and media content that supports a culture of dialogue and moderation.

The program represents a pioneering national initiative designed to establish moderate thinking as a cornerstone of a balanced Saudi society — in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030’s goal of fostering a “Vibrant and Cohesive Society” and promoting a knowledge-based, dialogue-driven approach to positive influence and social stability.

A Comprehensive Academic and Practical Program to Promote Moderation

The Moderation and Balance Fellowship is structured as an integrated program that balances academic learning with practical application, focusing on intellectual, behavioral, and leadership development.
Its objectives include:

  • Instilling accurate concepts of moderation in thought and conduct.

  • Preparing scholars and community leaders capable of addressing extremist ideologies through evidence-based, balanced discourse.

  • Empowering participants to apply modern technologies in religious and media outreach.

  • Enhancing communication and persuasive skills for effective community engagement.

  • Fostering positive, dialogue-based societies built on coexistence and understanding.

The fellowship consists of six specialized training tracks covering diverse intellectual, technical, and communicative dimensions of community and religious leadership.

Program Structure: Six Core Training Tracks

  1. Foundations and Priorities of Da’wah – Understanding the objectives and hierarchy of Islamic outreach, prioritizing societal needs, and addressing contemporary issues with balance and clarity.

  2. Modern Technologies in Da’wah – Leveraging AI and digital tools to communicate effectively, counter misinformation, and create engaging media content.

  3. Effective Religious Communication – Developing public speaking, intercultural communication, and persuasive dialogue skills to represent moderate thought with confidence.

  4. Leadership and Community Management Skills – Building managerial and leadership capacities to plan, organize, and execute community initiatives efficiently.

  5. Foundations of Islamic Creed – Reinforcing sound theological understanding free from extremism or negligence, and addressing intellectual challenges through scholarly reasoning.

  6. Personality Analysis and Interpersonal Skills – Enhancing self-awareness, empathy, and communication strategies for effective leadership and social harmony.

Applied Learning and Capstone Projects

The program concludes with a capstone project where participants design a real-world social or media initiative that reflects the principles of moderation.
Workshops and expert-led sessions allow fellows to engage with leading thinkers and practitioners who promote moderation and coexistence across the Muslim world.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Training

In alignment with the Endowment’s digital transformation strategy, the fellowship incorporates AI tools to personalize learning, analyze performance, and evaluate outreach effectiveness.
This innovative integration bridges traditional Islamic education with modern technology — creating a forward-looking model that merges authenticity with innovation.

Impact and National Significance

The Moderation and Balance Fellowship aims to intellectually and professionally equip national talents to strengthen social cohesion and safeguard society against extremism.
Key anticipated outcomes include:

  • Spreading a culture of dialogue, coexistence, and mutual respect.

  • Enabling participants to launch awareness initiatives that promote balance and tolerance.

  • Building a new generation of moderate leaders and thinkers capable of positive influence.

  • Supporting national efforts to counter radical ideologies through credible, knowledge-based discourse.

  • Reinforcing authentic Islamic values in communication and community engagement.

Strategic Partnerships for Broader Impact

The program will be delivered in collaboration with national and international organizations specializing in religious, intellectual, and media development — ensuring alignment with global best practices and educational excellence.

A National Model for Thoughtful Leadership

Through this fellowship, the Scientific Endowment at King Abdulaziz University reaffirms its leadership in delivering professional and academic programs that empower individuals and strengthen communities.
The Moderation and Balance Fellowship stands as a national model for promoting dialogue, awareness, and coexistence — preparing Saudi talents to lead with wisdom, balance, and pride in their identity.
